YellowProduct Description
Antique French Conscience Yellow Glazed Pottery Vessel; Circa Mid 19th Century. Bulbous bottle form with a central spout at the top. This pottery jug is glazed ochre with varying tones achieved through time and use. The four handles along the sides add a graphic element to the vessel; though originally intended for threading rope to transport water or oil. Likely from Provence/south of France. These utilitarian vessels got their name due to the fact that monks would rely on an individual’s “conscience to give oil or water for the needy. Unsigned.
