Vivienne Westwood's use of safety pins dates back to the earliest days of her design career, when she and Malcolm McLaren dressed the Sex Pistols and built the visual language of British punk out of ripped fabric and pinned-together seams. Made from silver-toned brass, the 'Hectorina' earrings put that motif front and centre, with a pin piercing through the 'Orb' motif encrusted with crystals.
