Inside Dr. Macrene Alexiades' Chic Closet

Dr. Macrene Alexiades MD, PhD is impressive enough on paper—a dual board-certified dermatologist and genetics scientist with three degrees from Harvard, plus founder of plant-based skincare brand Macrene Actives. Based in New York, she is in demand with celebrities and the fashion elite for her cosmetic dermatology that embodies a natural aesthetic. But Dr. Alexiades is equally known for her impeccable sense of style. “My style is rooted in high quality—luxury, sleek tailoring, and classic refinement—with an unmistakable NYC attitude,” Dr. Alexiades exclusively shares with Vêtir. “I gravitate toward clean lines and expert construction that speak to power, beauty, and a quietly confident sexiness.” This ethos is reflected in her typical ensembles of minimalist dresses and crisp separates from the likes of Khaite, Gabriela Hearst and Bottega Veneta. Most recently, this edge is interpreted through a wardrobe staple sourced from Dr. Alexiades’ very own personal archives. “I’m obsessed with blazers right now!” she said. “I’ve resurrected my ’90s collection of impeccably tailored pieces from Versace, Calvin Klein, Giorgio Armani, Burberry and Givenchy, and paired them with newer, more relaxed styles from Veronica Beard and Ralph Lauren. Whether thrown over a dress or tailored pants, a blazer is stylish—it adds polish, provides breathable coverage, and feels incredibly modern in its proportion and attitude. I’m constantly being told how great they look—it’s my go-to layer for day or night.” If she sounds well-versed in fashion, it’s because she is: Dr. Alexiades is also a member of Friends of the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America), a select group of creative and fashion-minded individuals that champion American designers. “I’m always exploring new talent in fashion—current up-and-comers I love include Weiderhoft and Aisling Camps,” she shares.
