The Holiday Gift Guide for Him, 2026: The Right Gift for Every Man on Your List

The right present for a man depends less on the budget than on who he is to you, so this holiday gift guide for him is organized by relationship first. A husband or partner can take one serious piece he would never buy himself: a steel watch, a leather weekender, a down jacket in the size you already know. A father wants a better version of something he uses every day. A father-in-law wants something generous that says nothing personal. A new boyfriend should get something small, unsized and well made. After the relationships come the holiday moments (the party, the cold, the ski trip, the week at home), then a stocking edit and a short guide to buying a sized gift without asking. There are 96 pieces in the edits below, including menswear that Gucci, Moncler, Versace and Balmain now list on Vêtir straight from their own stores.
The holiday gift guide for him, at a glance
Start with the relationship, then the risk; the same logic holds for Christmas gifts for him and for Hanukkah presents spread over eight nights. The more personal the gift, the more you need to know about him; the less you know, the more the gift should be about his house, his bar or his routine rather than his body.
| Who he is to you | What to give | Our suggested range | Sizing risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Husband or partner | One piece he has talked himself out of: a watch, a weekender, a cocktail set, a down jacket | $3,000 and up | Only where you know his size in that house |
| Father | Something to wear on Christmas morning, or an upgrade to a daily routine | $150 to $3,000 | Low |
| Father-in-law | Something for the bar or the games table, given from both of you | $200 to $2,000 | None |
| Brother or best friend | The slightly louder version of what he already wears | $350 to $800 | Low |
| New relationship | Small leather goods, a beanie, a candle; nothing that comments on how he dresses | Under $450 | None |
| Boss | A pooled gift from the team, for his desk or his home | Split between the team | None |
| Colleague or host | A candle, a mug, a cocktail shaker | Under $350 | None |
The ranges are our suggestions, taken from what the pieces in each edit cost; they are not a rule of etiquette. Three tests separate a considered gift from a logo grab:
- Will he wear it out? The pieces men use until they fray are the plain ones: a grey or navy cashmere crewneck, a black card holder, a charcoal scarf. Give a better version of one of those and it will be carried for a decade.
- Is the logo the point? If the most visible thing about a gift is the name on it, it flatters the giver. Choose pieces whose house you recognize by material and shape, such as Bottega Veneta's woven leather, and favor the quieter pieces from the louder houses.
- Is it his to choose? Leave a suit he has not tried on, a fragrance for a man you do not live with, and equipment for a hobby you do not share (golf clubs, a fishing reel) to him. An enthusiast notices the wrong model at once.
Holiday 2026 dates, and when to buy which gifts
Hanukkah begins at sundown on Friday, December 4, and ends at nightfall on Saturday, December 12, according to Hebcal's 2026 calendar. Christmas Day falls on a Friday this year, so Christmas Eve is Thursday, December 24, and New Year's Eve is the Thursday after that.
For holiday gifts for men in 2026, the calendar sets the order of buying. Buy anything sized (knitwear, outerwear, shoes, slippers, gloves) by mid-November, so a wrong size can still be exchanged before the 25th wherever the seller allows it. Return and exchange terms are set by the brand or retailer that ships each piece, so check them before you order a sized gift. If he celebrates Hanukkah, the first night falls exactly three weeks before Christmas Day, so move each of these deadlines up by three weeks. Unsized gifts (leather goods, barware, candles, fragrance) can wait until December. In September, Deloitte forecast US holiday retail sales of $1.70 trillion to $1.71 trillion for November 2026 through January 2027, with e-commerce sales up 7.5% to 8.4% on the year before, according to its 2026 holiday forecast. More parcels in December is one more reason to order the sized pieces first.
New on Vêtir: Gucci, Moncler, Versace and Balmain
Since the summer, several houses have begun listing on Vêtir directly from their own stores, and four of them carry menswear that makes a good December gift.
Moncler. Moncler began in 1952 in Monestier-de-Clermont, a mountain village near Grenoble, and its name is an abbreviation of the village's, as Highsnobiety's profile of the house recounts. Its Grenoble line supplies the ski pieces further down this guide. As a gift, the black Gabas down vest is the easiest Moncler to get right: a vest has no sleeve length to misjudge, and the house numbers its sizes (1 to 7 on that listing), so copy the number from the label of any Moncler he already owns. The cashmere-blend beanie, worked in a basket stitch with a leather logo patch, needs no size at all.
Gucci. From Gucci's own store, the pieces we would wrap first are the quiet ones: a black grained-leather card case with the green-and-red Web stripe inlaid in the leather rather than printed on it, and a GG wool jacquard scarf in two greys that reads as texture from across a room.
Versace and Balmain. Versace's cashmere scarf, with one small embroidered Medusa, is the house at its most restrained; its bottle-green velvet blazer appears in the party edit and its velvet Medusa slippers in the at-home edit. Balmain's Vintage line is made in France in merino wool and carries an embossed leather label: an olive beanie, and a navy crewneck with a three-color diamond pattern that suits a man who wears argyle on weekends. The Anthem loafer in glazed black calf sits on a chunky cleated sole and is sized in European numbers.
Casablanca, the Paris label known for its tennis-club graphics and printed silk shirts, joined at the end of September and suits the brother who likes his shirts loud.

Christmas gift ideas for your husband or partner: the big gift
Of all luxury Christmas gifts for men, the big gift should be the thing he has wanted and talked himself out of, not a larger version of last year's present. Three kinds of gift earn that budget: a watch, a bag he will take on every trip, and an object for the house that marks the year.
For a watch, choose by what he wears most. Cartier's Tank Must in the extra-large automatic size (reference WSTA0053, the version on a steel bracelet) is the dress watch for a man who lives in tailoring; Louis Cartier designed the Tank in 1917, according to the house. The Santos chronograph is the sportier choice, with an automatic chronograph movement and a date window, and Cartier pairs its steel bracelet with a second, black rubber strap. Both bracelets have to be sized to his wrist. Cartier's SmartLink system lets him take links out of the Santos bracelet by hand, without tools; have a jeweler size the Tank before you wrap it, because nobody wants a watch sliding over his knuckles on Christmas morning.
For travel, Bottega Veneta's intrecciato weekender in dark brown has two top handles, a detachable strap and roughly 18 inches of width, enough for two or three days away. Tom Ford's grained-leather duffle in black is the plainer, more urban choice. For the house, Brunello Cucinelli makes the objects that suit the man who has everything: an eight-watch box in vegetable-tanned Vachetta leather (a better gift than a ninth watch for a collector), a silver-plated cocktail set with a Boston shaker, strainer, bar spoon, jigger and ice tongs in a leather case, and a walnut globe made by hand in Italy from two laser-engraved half-spheres. Tom Ford's slim zip jacket, knitted in wool and quilted with down (part jacket, part cardigan, as the house describes it), is the one sized piece here; it comes in Italian sizes, so buy it only if you know his. What we would not give as the big present: a logo-heavy piece he would have to wear to show he likes it, or a gadget that will look dated by next December.
- For the collector: the watch box, which also tells him you have noticed the watches he already has.
- For the man who hosts: the cocktail set, and a promise to be the one who learns the recipes.
- For the man who travels every month: the black duffle with the navy quilted jacket, which packs flatter than a coat and wears well with black.

Gifts for dad at Christmas: what he will use on the 25th
Fathers are famous for saying they want nothing, and they usually mean nothing that requires effort. The answer is a gift he can use the same day: something to put on after breakfast, or something that tidies a habit he has had for thirty years. Our full guide to luxury gifts for dad sorts fathers by type; this edit is about Christmas itself.
Brioni's V-neck cardigan is a fine 18-gauge knit of wool, cashmere and silk, with patch pockets for reading glasses, and it is the kind of knit a father wears to open presents and then all winter. Brunello Cucinelli's leather-trimmed flat cap in virgin wool is for the walk after lunch. For his routines, Zegna's Secondskin watch roll has two padded compartments and a snap closure for the man who travels with a spare watch, and Brunello Cucinelli's leather-and-wood tray gives his keys, wallet and watch a place on the dresser at night. A father who still carries folded bills will use Gucci's GG Marmont card case with a money clip on the outside. Gabriela Hearst's herringbone cashmere scarf and Canali's deerskin gloves, lined in cashmere, cover the cold. Hermès's Équipage, created by the perfumer Guy Robert in 1970, was the house's first fragrance for men, according to Hermès: aromatic and spicy, and a good choice for a man who has worn the same cologne since college and might accept a better one.
- The Christmas-morning set: the cardigan and the flat cap, worn the same day.
- The father who travels: the watch roll and the money-clip card case.
- The father who walks the dog at 7 a.m.: the grey herringbone scarf with the deerskin gloves.

For your father-in-law: generous, impersonal and from both of you
The best gift for a father-in-law is generous without being intimate. Skip fragrance, skip anything intimate such as pajamas or a robe, and skip clothing that would require asking your partner for his size. Give it from both of you, and aim it at the part of his life he shares with guests: the bar, the table, the games he plays after dinner.
Ginori 1735's Marchese decanter is mouth-blown crystal with a hand-painted band of gold-leaf flowers, and two of Baccarat's Château double old-fashioned tumblers complete it. Brunello Cucinelli's glacette, a double-walled steel cylinder trimmed in leather, keeps a bottle of Champagne cold through dinner. Christofle's silver-plated coasters come from the K+T collection designed with the chef Thomas Keller and the designer Adam D. Tihany. For the man who does not drink, Brunello Cucinelli's leather chess set rolls up with its pieces zipped inside, and Trudon's Cyrnos candle, in the large 800-gram size, smells of lemon, black fig and cedar. Bottega Veneta's intrecciato cashmere scarf in grey melange is the only wearable here, because it needs no size and a grey scarf is never a comment on anyone's taste. Berluti's leather cigar case, which holds two, is for one kind of father-in-law only, and you will know if he is that kind.
- The host: the decanter and the pair of tumblers, wrapped together.
- The competitor: the chess set, with an invitation to play the day after Christmas.

For your brother or best friend: the slightly louder version
You know his taste better than anyone, and he will tell you if you get it wrong, so buy the slightly bolder version of what he already wears. A card holder in burgundy rather than black, a cashmere baseball cap rather than a cotton one, a beanie with a stripe on it. These are gifts with some personality and little risk: apart from the two hats and one sweater, nothing here needs a size.
Saint Laurent's Cassandre card holder in burgundy grained leather has four card slots and a center pocket. Loro Piana's Ivy cap is pure cashmere with an adjustable leather tab at the back. Thom Browne's grey cable beanie carries the house's red, white and blue stripe at the cuff. Tom Ford's Hayden sunglasses are square black acetate with the T hinges, and Prada's Saffiano mini pouch clips to his keys and has two card slots, for the man who leaves the house with only a phone; Bottega Veneta's key ring, a knot of blue woven nappa on a silver clip, is the smaller version of the same idea. Moncler Grenoble's Makaio is a compact crossbody in three-layer nylon with a drawstring top, just big enough for a phone and keys. Canali's sky-blue cashmere crewneck is the one sized piece of clothing; it is cut like a sweatshirt, which forgives an approximate size.
- The brother who borrows everything: the cashmere cap, so he stops borrowing yours.
- The best friend who travels light: the crossbody and the key pouch.

For a new relationship: luxurious, small and low-risk
Early on, a gift should show attention, not investment. Our rule for a first holiday together: spend about what you expect him to spend on you, or a little less, and choose something he can use without wearing it in front of you to prove he likes it. That rules out clothing in a guessed size, jewelry and a full bottle of fragrance in a scent you chose. It leaves small leather goods, a beanie, good socks and something for his apartment, all under $450 in this edit.
Ferragamo's card holder is black leather with six card slots and a micro Gancini on the front. Prada's Saffiano card holder comes in a juniper green that is unusual without being loud. Saint Laurent's slim key pouch holds four key rings inside a snap case. TOTEME's red cashmere beanie has a shallow crown for a close fit, and Burberry's check knit gloves come in just two sizes, S/M and M/L, which cover most hands. Loro Piana's Sottile socks blend wool, cashmere and silk, a small extravagance he will notice every time he puts on a suit. Creed's leather sample wallet holds eight vials of the house's men's fragrances, including Aventus and Green Irish Tweed, so he can find his own scent instead of wearing yours. Byredo's Bibliothèque candle smells of leather and vanilla and suits a man whose apartment is mostly books.

For your boss, a colleague or your host
Gifts up the ladder are the trickiest on the list. The Emily Post Institute's advice is that an individual gift to a boss can look like an attempt to win favor, while a pooled gift from several employees is fine if it is not too expensive or personal, as its guide to the workplace at the holidays puts it. So collect from the team and buy one good object for his desk or his home. Loewe's leather A5 notebook, with a debossed logo and dotted pages, suits a boss who still writes things down; Christofle's OH ice bucket, double-insulated steel, suits one who entertains clients.
For a colleague, keep to whatever limit your office sets and choose something consumable or useful at a desk: Hermès's H Déco porcelain mug, Ginori 1735's Labirinto mug with the Gio Ponti maze pattern, or a candle. For a host, bring what can go straight onto the bar cart: Christofle's OH cocktail shaker has a built-in strainer, and a pair of Baccarat's Harmonie shot glasses makes a December party gift. Trudon's Gabriel candle smells of birch wood, glacé chestnut and moss, a winter scent in a glass shaped like a Champagne bucket. Our guide to luxury hostess gifts covers the etiquette of what to bring, and when.

How to buy him a sized gift without asking
Most of this guide needs no size. The party, cold, ski and at-home edits below do, so here is how to get it right quietly.
- Knitwear and loungewear. Houses do not share a scale. In this guide alone, Canali sizes its cashmere sweatshirt in European numbers (50 to 60), Brioni its cardigan in numbers from 38 to 44, Moncler its zip cardigan in letters (S to 3XL), and Brunello Cucinelli lists its zip hoodie in Italian and US sizes side by side. Copy the size from a label in the same house if you can find one in his closet. If not, lay his best-fitting sweater flat, measure across the chest from armpit to armpit, double it and compare with the size chart, checking whether the chart gives body or garment measurements. Between two sizes, go up for anything worn over a shirt.
- Outerwear. Moncler sizes its down jackets by number (0 to 7 on the Maya 70 listing), so look for a number on the label of any Moncler he owns; Tom Ford's quilted jacket uses Italian numbers (46 to 60), so read its size chart rather than assuming his US jacket size carries over. Never size down on a down jacket: it has to close over a sweater.
- Shoes and slippers. Read the insole of his favorite pair for both the number and the scale. On our listings, Balmain sizes in European numbers, Christian Louboutin's velvet loafers and Versace's velvet slippers in European numbers with half sizes, and Ferragamo adds a width letter (E or EE) after the US size. Slip-ons have no laces to take up slack, so a half size matters more than it would in an oxford.
- Gloves. Knit gloves sold in two sizes forgive an estimate; lined leather does not. Dents, the English glovemaker, measures a hand around its widest part, excluding the thumb; on its men's chart, 8½ to 9 inches is a medium and 9½ to 10 a large, and between sizes it advises rounding down, because leather stretches slightly with wear. Padded ski gloves do not give the way leather does, so between sizes, take the larger.
- Belts and watch bracelets. We left belts out of this guide, because houses measure belt length differently; our guide to luxury gifts for men explains how to measure one he owns. A steel watch bracelet has to be sized to his wrist: the Santos bracelet adjusts by hand, and for any other, a jeweler can take out links before you wrap it.
What to give him to wear to the holiday party
Buy him the finishing pieces, not the suit. Cufflinks, a proper bow tie, a pocket square and an evening shoe are the parts of party dressing most men own in poor versions or not at all, and only the shoe needs a size. The exception is a velvet jacket, which is a superb gift if you know his jacket size and a risky one if you do not. Our guide to men's holiday party outfits explains which dress codes allow velvet.
Tom Ford's black cotton-velvet jacket has a satin shawl collar and a single button, which makes it a true dinner jacket, and Versace's bottle-green velvet blazer, with peak lapels and a Medusa button, is the festive alternative for a party that is not black tie. Christian Louboutin's Dandelion loafers, in black velvet trimmed with grosgrain at the vamp, are the evening slip-on, red soles included, and Ferragamo's Foster loafers in high-gloss patent are the more formal shoe. Before buying cufflinks, check that he owns shirts with French cuffs. Gucci's GG Marmont cufflinks are aged sterling silver with a Double G drawn from a 1970s archive design, and David Yurman's Sculpted Cable cufflinks continue the twisted-cable motif that, according to the house, began as a bracelet he hand-twisted from wire. Tom Ford's velvet bow tie and Brioni's hand-rolled white silk pocket square finish the look. More pairs are in men's cufflinks.
- Festive dress code: bottle-green velvet blazer, black trousers, white shirt, black velvet loafers.
- Creative black tie: black velvet dinner jacket, white shirt, black velvet bow tie, silver cufflinks, patent loafers.
- The office party: his own dark suit, a white pocket square and the cufflinks, which is the whole upgrade.

Gifts for the cold: cashmere, gloves and one Moncler
A hat, a scarf and gloves are the winter pieces a man wears every day from December to March, and most men own tired versions of all three. Buy them in charcoal or grey, which work with every coat color he is likely to own, and give the set rather than one piece if the budget allows.
Brunello Cucinelli's charcoal cashmere beanie comes in sizes from M to XXL, a detail worth noting if his head is large, while Loro Piana's Cedar beanie is cable-knit cashmere with a folded cuff. Burberry's Giant Check scarf is 100% cashmere, made in the United Kingdom and 66 inches long, enough to fold in half and loop through itself; Loro Piana's large cashmere scarf in charcoal has frayed ends and only a small label. Brunello Cucinelli's charcoal cashmere gloves finish in a pale stripe at the cuff, and Zegna's dark-brown deerskin gloves are lined in cashmere. For warmth under a coat, Moncler's zip cardigan mixes wool and cashmere in an interlock and rib stitch. The Maya 70 is Moncler's short hooded down jacket in olive, with a detachable hood and a patch pocket on the sleeve. See more men's gloves and scarves, and our guide to men's winter coats if the budget stretches to the coat itself.
- The commuter's set: the charcoal beanie, the check scarf and the charcoal cashmere gloves.
- With a grey overcoat: the dark-brown deerskin gloves and the plain charcoal scarf.

For the ski trip
Never buy skis or boots as a surprise, since both are fitted, and buy a helmet only in a size you know. The better gifts are the pieces skiers forget or make do with. Moncler Grenoble's padded gloves were made with the glovemaker Reusch, with leather on the palm for grip and a zipped pocket for a heating pad, and they come in four sizes. Its balaclava is knit from Polartec Power Grid, a light fabric that wicks sweat, and the half-zip in the same fabric is a mid-layer to wear under a shell. Brunello Cucinelli's mock-neck ski top is 98% silk, a base layer few skiers own. Balenciaga's Skiwear line adds crew-length ski socks knit with Coolmax, which wicks moisture away from the foot, and a fleece-lined belt pack in water-repellent nylon for his phone and lift pass. Tom Ford's goggles have mirrored UV-protective lenses on a logo-jacquard strap, and Balenciaga's ski-mask goggles offer full UVA and UVB protection. Check that a goggle strap is long enough to go over his helmet.
- The first-lift set: the balaclava, the half-zip and the padded gloves.
- The man who already has everything for the mountain: the silk base layer, which he will not have.

For the at-home holidays
The week between Christmas and New Year's Eve is when a man actually lives in his house, and the best gifts for it look good enough to answer the door in. Brunello Cucinelli's navy cashmere zip hoodie and Versace's black cashmere-and-cotton sweatpants, with a small Medusa at the waist, make a set; navy and black is one of the easiest combinations in menswear. Dolce & Gabbana's black terry robe has a shawl collar and a tonal jacquard. Versace's black velvet slippers, with a three-dimensional Medusa, are smart enough for guests.
For the room itself, Brunello Cucinelli's ribbed cashmere blanket in oatmeal and Gucci's ivory cashmere jacquard blanket with green-and-red Web stripes, about 51 by 71 inches, both earn a place on the sofa. Brunello Cucinelli's dominoes set comes in a walnut-and-Krion box that sits on a coffee table between games, and Diptyque's Feu de Bois candle smells of a wood fire; the 51.3-ounce indoor-and-outdoor size in this edit burns for about 120 hours, according to its listing.
- The full set: hoodie, sweatpants, slippers and the blanket.
- The shared gift: the dominoes and the candle, for the whole house.

Stocking stuffers for him
Our luxury stocking stuffers guide fills her stocking; his works on the same principle, small objects from great houses for under $300. Gucci's Horsebit silk tie in navy and blue, Kiton's hand-rolled silk pocket square and a pair of Burberry check socks in burgundy cover the dressing side. Saint Laurent's silver-toned brass money clip and Balenciaga's calfskin card holder cover his pockets. Moncler Grenoble's thermal mug, made with SIGG, keeps coffee hot for up to 20 hours according to its listing. Byredo's Vetyver hand cream and the 1.7-ounce bottle of Terre d'Hermès Eau de Parfum Intense finish the stocking.

How we chose
We built this guide around relationships and holiday moments, so every piece had to suit the person giving it as well as the man receiving it. The father-in-law edit holds one wearable, a grey scarf that needs no size, and nothing intimate. The new-relationship edit stays under $450, and its only sized pieces are gloves and socks sold in two sizes each. Where a piece needs a size, we kept it only if the common sizes were still in stock, which is why ski gloves left in three scattered sizes, or in one, did not make the ski edit, and the sizing section above explains how to buy each kind without asking. Every piece is new, full price and from the men's or unisex catalog of the luxury houses Vêtir carries, with no more than three from one house in any edit; the Gucci, Moncler, Versace and Balmain pieces come from those houses' own stores. We checked each product's photographs against its listing, because a listed color or detail is not always what arrives, and none of these pieces appears in our category-led guide to luxury gifts for men, so the two read as companions.
Frequently asked questions
What do you buy a husband who has everything?
Something that looks after what he already has, or an object for the house that marks the year. A watch box for the watches he owns, a cocktail set for the bar he already stocks, or a leather weekender to replace a tired one all qualify. If you want help narrowing it down, describe him and your budget to our AI stylist.
What is a good Christmas gift for a new boyfriend, and how much should I spend?
A small, unsized piece of good quality: a card holder, a key pouch, a cashmere beanie or a candle for his apartment. Spend about what you expect him to spend on you, or slightly less. Avoid clothing in a size you guessed, jewelry and a full bottle of fragrance you chose.
What are good Christmas gifts for dad?
Something he can use on the day: a fine-knit cardigan, a flat cap for the walk after lunch, a watch roll for his travels or a leather valet tray for his dresser. Fathers who say they want nothing usually mean nothing complicated.
What are the best luxury gifts for him under $500?
Card holders and key pouches from Saint Laurent, Ferragamo or Prada, a cashmere beanie, knit gloves, luxury socks, a candle or a fragrance sample set. The new-relationship and stocking-stuffer edits above are all under $500.
Should I buy my boss a Christmas gift?
Not on your own. Etiquette guidance from the Emily Post Institute favors a pooled gift from the team, not too expensive or personal, over an individual present. A leather notebook for his desk or a good ice bucket for his home works well.
