Gifts for Fashion Lovers: Runway Bags, Reissues and Collaborations With a Story

The best gifts for fashion lovers come with a story they will recognize: a bag from a new designer's first seasons at a house, an archive design brought back, a collaboration, or the shoe, knit or brooch the fall 2026 runways agreed on. People who follow the shows already own the classics, and they can tell a piece with a point of view from a logo. So every gift here has a reason a fashion person would want it, sourced wherever it rests on a runway or a launch: Jonathan Anderson's Dior, the Amazona 180 that marked Loewe's 180th year, Pierpaolo Piccioli's new hourglass bag for Balenciaga, Le City and the Paddington back from the 2000s, and the final seasons of three designers who left their houses in 2026. We finish with books and objects for the person who already has the bag: 76 pieces in 10 edits.

Gifts for fashion lovers: how to choose for someone who follows the shows

What hangs in stores this winter is the fall 2026 collection, shown in February and March. For several houses it was a new designer's second outing: after the wave of appointments in 2024 and 2025, fall 2026 was Louise Trotter's second show for Bottega Veneta, Piccioli's second for Balenciaga and the second for Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez at Loewe, while Demna made his runway debut for Gucci, according to Vogue's reviews. The spring 2027 collections shown in September and October reach stores next year, so this December's wish list is fall 2026 plus the house classics.

Our stylists' rules for buying for a fashion person:

  • Find out what she owns from the house first. A second Le Teckel is a duplicate; a first piece from a designer she has followed since his debut is a gift.
  • Give the detail only insiders notice. Balenciaga engraves its address, 10 avenue George V, on the Hourglass Avenue's closure; that says more to a fashion person than a monogram.
  • Choose the runway color only for someone who already wears color. Otherwise the season's shape in black, cream or gray will outlast the trend.
  • Keep sized gifts for people whose sizes you know, and buy the size she wears in that house: French, Italian, US and letter sizes all appear in this guide.

Across all Vêtir users, the houses named by the most people in typed requests to our AI stylist over the 12 months to late September 2026 were Saint Laurent, Khaite, Prada, Chanel and Chloé, followed by Celine, ALAÏA, Gucci, The Row and Miu Miu. Most of them appear below. Cult small leather goods and charms have their own guides: our designer wallet guide and our edit of designer bag charms.

The first It-bags of fashion's new designers

Jonathan Anderson staged his fall 2026 show for Dior in the Tuileries Garden. "It's a promenade, the idea of people dressing up to walk in the park," he told Vogue. Dior's listings say both Dior bags here come from that show: the Diorly, a slouchy suede shoulder bag whose strap carries a Dior signature inspired by the house archives, and the Promenade, a tote in cannage-stitched suede with the small bow Dior now treats as a signature. The bag Marie Claire tipped as the season's It-bag, the small Dior Toujours hobo, reached stores at the end of July, the magazine reported; you will find it in our fall bags guide.

Loewe marked McCollough and Hernandez's debut and the house's 180th anniversary with the Amazona 180. It keeps much of the boxy structure of the 1975 Amazona but adds a single top handle and two long zip pullers, and it is meant to be carried open, Vogue's guide to Loewe bags explains; Vogue's fall bag report calls it intentionally undone. Bottega Veneta's Giorno, from Trotter's first collection, turns the dust bag into the bag itself. Piccioli's Hourglass Avenue for Balenciaga keeps the curved profile of the house's Hourglass line in a softer build; the silhouette goes back to the peplumed suits Cristóbal Balenciaga showed in summer 1943. Vogue called the Le Teckel, named for the dachshund for its long, slim shape, the most recent of the It-bags Pieter Mulier gave ALAÏA. For Demna's Gucci we chose the Borsetto, one of the new styles Vogue credits to him; its name, Gucci's listing explains, joins borsa and morsetto, the horsebit.

How she will carry them:

  • The Giorno tucked under the arm with a gray coat.
  • The Diorly on its long strap over a cream knit.
  • The raisin Hourglass Avenue by its handle with charcoal tailoring.

Archive bags, reissued: designer gift ideas with a back story

A reissue is the easiest bag to give a fashion person, because the story is half the gift. Nicolas Ghesquière's City bag of 2001, first named Le Dix Motorcycle Lariat, came back as Le City in April 2024 under Demna, and in July Piccioli sent couture versions in silver metal and rose-gold crystal mesh down his first couture runway for Balenciaga, Vogue reported. Our Le City is mint, the color Vogue remembers Mary-Kate Olsen carrying the first time around. Chemena Kamali brought back Phoebe Philo's Paddington of 2005 on her fall 2025 runway for Chloé, and it went back on sale that September, as WWD had reported it would and Marie Claire UK confirmed; Chloé's listing calls it a 20th-anniversary return and says the new one is lighter than the original. Silvia Venturini Fendi's Baguette of 1997 is often called the first It-bag, and the Soft version here is, in Fendi's words, a deconstructed take on it.

Gucci's hobo of 1961 was renamed the Jackie, as the story goes, after Jacqueline Kennedy was photographed carrying it, and Demna's first Gucci runway reworked it in a crushable leather (both from Vogue). Lauren Hutton carried a Bottega Veneta clutch in American Gigolo in 1980, and the house revived it in 2017, Vogue's guide to the house notes; Bottega now sells it as the Lauren 1980. By the same magazine's account, Loewe's Flamenco pouch dates to the 1970s and was relaunched in 2010. Prada's Re-Edition 2005 comes here in dark red Re-Nylon, a polyamide, with a removable chain handle and a small zip pouch.

One check before you buy: some women kept their 2000s originals. If she still carries a Paddington from 2005, give the Baguette.

The last seasons: Vaccarello's Saint Laurent, Mulier's ALAÏA, McGirr's McQueen

In our experience, a fashion person collects a designer's final collections the way a reader collects first editions. Three of the designers who left their houses this year still have their work in stores. On October 9, Saint Laurent announced that Anthony Vaccarello was stepping down after ten years and said it would name new creative leadership soon; as we write, in late October, it has not. His fall 2026 show marked 60 years since Yves Saint Laurent's first Smoking of 1966 and opened with eight dark trouser suits, and his models carried slim envelope clutches. Until a successor's first collection reaches stores, the Saint Laurent on sale is Vaccarello's: here, a suede envelope pouch on a chain, velvet Opyum mules on the YSL-letter heel, and clip-on Harlequin earrings, enamel hearts set with glass cabochons.

Mulier's last collection for ALAÏA was fall 2026, shown in March; Vogue Business reported in February that he would become Versace's chief creative officer from July 1. From Mulier's ALAÏA we chose gold Dome earrings, perforated Vienne ballet flats in moss green and the perforated Delta clutch. On October 15, Kering said Seán McGirr would leave Alexander McQueen after three years; the house is due to name a successor soon. From McGirr's McQueen, black lace evening gloves and a Tree of Life jacquard stole close the edit.

How she will wear them:

  • The burgundy Opyum mules with black wide-leg trousers.
  • The cognac suede envelope on its chain over a cream or gray coat.
  • The McQueen lace gloves with a sleeveless dress, or just showing under the cuff of a coat.

For the party season: the clutch and the minaudière

Vogue's report on the fall 2026 bag trends named the minaudière and the pillowy, everyday clutch among the season's shapes, and noted the slim envelopes on Vaccarello's runway. A clutch is also among the most forgiving fashion gift ideas: no size, no fit, and it will go to every party between Thanksgiving on November 26 and New Year's Eve. Bottega Veneta's Knot has history behind it: Tomas Maier revived the house's Knot clutch of 1978, Vogue notes, and this one is woven in intrecciato leather and raffia. Balenciaga's Le City clutch in silver is the everyday answer to Piccioli's silver couture City bags. Khaite's fall collection nodded to the 1920s, and its Grace envelope clutch on a chain would suit a beaded dress. The rest are for evening only: Bvlgari's Tubogas clutch in black satin, Valentino's minaudière in resin with crystals, Victoria Beckham's Kizette with a gathered, beaded drawstring, and Roger Vivier's navy satin clutch with a buckle of crystal flowers.

The shoes the fall runways agreed on

Vogue's fall 2026 shoe report found the kitten heel at Celine, Prada and Proenza Schouler; the T-strap at Dior and Givenchy; slippers, including Gucci's fur-lined horsebit style; animal print, with Khaite's snakeskin pumps and Isabel Marant's zebra boots; and it picked ALAÏA's mesh pump as its sharp stiletto. That sheer mesh pump leads our edit, and Manolo Blahnik's Turgimodla, a pointed T-strap in black satin, covers the T-strap. Alessandro Michele's first Valentino show in Rome put lace-hemmed jeans over Rockstud pumps, so we chose Valentino's Rockstud kitten heel. Kamali's fall show for Chloé brought back thigh-high boots; Chloé's Eve is a 1970s-inspired thigh-high in shiny calfskin, laced at the top. Saint Laurent's Secret slingback answers the kitten heel and the animal print in one, in leopard grosgrain. For the slipper trend we chose Gucci's black leather Princetown, a house style since the fall 2015 show, its listing says, and Khaite's Jane flat in rust velvet. More pumps live in our pumps edit.

Our stylists' rule of thumb for shoes as gifts: buy only in the size and system she already wears in that house (several listings here run in Italian or European sizes), and save a pointed slingback for someone whose size you are sure of, because it is the least forgiving shape. The kitten heel is the shoe a fashion person will wear most; the thigh-high boot is the one she will be photographed in.

The knits worth giving, and how to get the size right

Prada's fall show opened on a long coat with a hand-knit scarf; on the model's next pass the coat was gone, showing a chunky zip sweater, and the clothes were made to look worn and loved, Vogue noted; Vogue's trend report credited Prada with making cardigans and tailoring new through styling. Anderson reworked Dior's Bar jacket as a shrunken gray knit cardigan with a peplum, and Kamali showed hand-knit Tyrolean sweaters at Chloé. Michele's first Valentino show in Rome framed deep V-necks in lace, which is why we chose Valentino's pale pink cashmere sweater edged in black lace at the V.

Two pieces in the edit are those runway ideas in shop form. Dior's short-sleeved peplum cardigan, a flecked black knit with Médaillon buttons, was imagined by Anderson, and its listing says the peplum embodies the season's signature look; the yarn is polyamide and viscose, not wool. Chloé's ivory fitted cardigan comes in what its listing calls a Tyrolean wool knit, with floral embellishments. Around them: Khaite's Lisa, a shrunken argyle in cashmere and mohair with elbow-length sleeves; a fine-rib Prada cardigan; Saint Laurent's chocolate sweater in ribbed silk; and Phoebe Philo's striped wool polo. Loewe's wool crewneck, with its stitched logo, brings the one bright color. Check the label system before you buy: these run in French, US and letter sizes, and our sweater edit has more. In our experience a close rib cardigan should button flat over a shirt without pulling between the buttons, so size up if she wears it as a jacket. Fold knitwear rather than hanging it, and store it with cedar.

How she will wear them:

  • The Saint Laurent silk sweater with gray flannel trousers and a cream coat.
  • Khaite's argyle Lisa over a white shirt, with gray trousers.
  • Dior's peplum cardigan buttoned to the neck as an evening top, with black wide-leg trousers.
  • The Valentino lace sweater with a black satin skirt.

Collaborations a fashion person will recognize

A collaboration dates itself in the best way: years from now it will still say exactly when it was made. At Loewe's fall show, textile sculptures by the artist Cosima von Bonin, including a large blue whale, sat in the front row, Vogue reported; the Loewe and von Bonin cardigan here carries a checkerboard whale in her fabric-collage technique, its listing says. Balenciaga released its shoes with Manolo Blahnik in May, styles Piccioli chose from Blahnik's archive; he said he had long admired Blahnik, who is Spanish like Cristóbal Balenciaga, WWD reported, and a J.M. Weston collaboration followed in September. Khaite's first eyewear collection was made with Oliver Peoples, Vanity Fair reported in February 2023, and Khaite's listing says the 1965C debuted on the fall 2026 runway. Jil Sander first worked with Puma in 1998 and returned to it in October 2025 under Simone Bellotti, British GQ reported. Miu Miu's partnership with New Balance added a tennis collection made with Coco Gauff in 2025.

The brooch, fall's smallest runway trend

Vogue's fall 2026 accessory trend report found floral brooches at Chanel, Loro Piana, Khaite, Dior and Kallmeyer. Brooches make good gifts for the fashionista because they need no size and every coat she owns becomes a new place to wear one. We led with florals: Khaite's red Frankie rose on a long pin, Saint Laurent's gold hydrangea, Oscar de la Renta's iris bouquet, Chloé's tulip and Carolina Herrera's calla lily. Then three wild cards, all from our brooch edit: Valentino's crystal bow, a white porcelain lobster claw from Loewe's collaboration with von Bonin, kin to the lobster-claw air pumps Vogue saw at Loewe's studio around the fall show, and Bottega Veneta's sterling-silver Drop.

Where to wear one, in our stylists' experience: on a coat lapel, at the collar of a white shirt, on the band of a felt hat or at the waist of a black dress. Pin through a single layer, close to a seam, so the weight does not drag a fine knit.

Stoles, opera gloves, pearls and a horse-buckle belt

The same report named the stole, the opera-length glove (Khaite and Balenciaga among the houses pictured), pearls, wraparound sunglasses and the Western belt, citing Chloé's galloping horse buckle. Chloé's Running Horses belt is that belt, and these are the finishing pieces a stylist adds last: Khaite's Remo opera gloves in cream leather, Saint Laurent's leopard stole, Phoebe Philo's fringed houndstooth scarf, Valentino's crystal-pearl necklace and Prada's pearl necklace, and Miu Miu's ivory wraparounds.

Sizing notes: the Chloé belt comes in S, M and L, and the Khaite gloves in half sizes from 6.5 to 8. Traditional glove sizes follow the circumference of the hand at its widest point, in inches, thumb excluded: on the size chart of the English glovemaker Dents, a 7-inch hand takes a 7, and Dents advises rounding down between sizes because leather gives with wear. Check the house's own chart before you order. Wear the black belt over a gray or cream coat, and let the gloves meet the sleeve of a coat or a sleeveless black dress.

Fashion books and objects for the person who has the bag

For someone who loves fashion and has run out of wardrobe space, give the house's world rather than its clothes. Gucci's The Art of Silk, published by Assouline, is a 331-page book on the house's silk scarves curated by Jo-Ann Furniss, with a project in which artists reinterpret Gucci scarf themes, according to Gucci's listing. The rarest object here is a limited-edition box of 25 archival pigment prints by Nikolai von Bismarck from the world premiere of Carmen at San Francisco Ballet in April 2024, the production for which Gabriela Hearst designed her first costumes, all in merino wool, the listing says. Versace's Barocco print covers two packs of playing cards in a lidded box and a notebook; Dolce & Gabbana's Zodiaco constellations cover a tray and a candle; Gucci's Herbarium print covers a large trinket tray in Ginori 1735 porcelain, for the jewelry by the door. For more, see our books edit.

For the full look a gift should complete, ask our AI stylist to build an outfit around any piece in this guide.

What not to give someone who follows fashion

The mistakes our stylists see most often with fashion people:

  • The entry-level logo piece. A canvas card case or a monogram key ring tells her you shopped by brand. She would rather have the house's least-known piece than its most recognizable one.
  • The trend she has already moved past. By the time a shape is everywhere on social media, she has usually bought it or decided against it. Give the runway idea the season is still arguing about, such as the kitten heel or the opera glove, not last year's.
  • A second version of her signature. If she carries a black Le Teckel every day, a burgundy one adds nothing. Give the piece that goes with it: the brooch for her coat, the stole for evening.
  • Fragrance, unless she has named the bottle. People who care about clothes often care as much about scent, and they rarely want a new one chosen for them.
  • Anything fitted without her measurements. A tailored jacket or a pencil skirt depends on shoulders and hips you cannot guess. A knit, a shoe in a size she has told you, or a bag is safer.

How we chose

Each of the 76 pieces had to earn its place with a reason a fashion person would recognize: a new designer's runway, an archive story, a named collaboration, a trend that Vogue's fall 2026 reports recorded, or a designer's final season. Where a claim rests on a runway, a launch or a departure, it is sourced to a review, a news report or the house's own listing, and every color named matches the product photograph, not only the color field. Gucci, Chloé and McQueen pieces come from the houses' own stores. Wallets and charms stay in their dedicated guides, and no piece repeats a pick from another Vêtir article.

Frequently asked questions

What do you get someone who loves fashion?

Something from the current season with a story she will recognize, rather than another classic she may already own: a bag from a new designer's first collections, an archive reissue, a collaboration, or a final-season piece from a designer who has left. If you do not know her sizes, choose a bag, a brooch, a stole or a book.

What is the It-bag of fall 2026?

Marie Claire called the small Dior Toujours hobo, which Jonathan Anderson showed in his fall 2026 collection, poised to be the bag of the season. Among the other new designers' bags, we would give Loewe's Amazona 180, Bottega Veneta's Giorno or Balenciaga's Hourglass Avenue, and among the reissues, Le City or the Paddington.

What are good designer gift ideas under $1,000?

Most of the brooches, Khaite's sunglasses with Oliver Peoples, Jil Sander's Speedcat sneakers with Puma, Loewe's scarf with Cosima von Bonin, the Valentino and Prada pearl necklaces, ALAÏA's Dome earrings, McQueen's lace evening gloves, Miu Miu's wraparounds, Loewe's stitched-logo sweater and Gucci's book and tray. For less, the Versace notebook or the Dolce & Gabbana candle.

Is a designer bag a good gift for a fashion lover?

Yes, if you check what she owns first and choose a model she does not have. A reissue she remembers or a new designer's first bag is safer than a trend shape, and a neutral or the house's signature color is safer than a novelty shade.

What are the best luxury gifts for stylish women who have everything?

Final-season pieces and collectible objects. A Vaccarello Saint Laurent piece, the Gabriela Hearst print box or Gucci's book on silk will mean more to her than another bag in a color she already owns. For gifts chosen for rarity alone, see our guide to gifts for the woman who has everything.

When should I buy fashion gifts this year?

Early: Thanksgiving is November 26, Hanukkah begins at sundown on Friday, December 4, and a season's runway pieces are not always made again. Buy anything that needs a size first, so there is time to check the fit.
